I’ve just returned from the CEDIA Expo in Denver, Colorado, and I can honestly say it was one of the most extraordinary showcases of projection technology I’ve ever witnessed. Two innovations stood out as absolute game changers: the Christie Eclipse G3 and Christie’s new Variable Dynamic Dimming (VDR).
The Eclipse G3: The Ultimate Luxury Home Cinema Projector
Making its global debut at CEDIA Expo, the Christie Eclipse G3 redefines what’s possible in high-end home cinema projection. Built on a unique 6DLP RGB pure laser architecture, this projector delivers true HDR performance with the deepest blacks imaginable and a 20,000,000:1 sequential contrast ratio. To put it simply: it’s unlike anything else on the market.
Watching content on the Eclipse G3 was a reminder of what home cinema should be…pure immersion. The level of realism, the lifelike colour rendering (up to 98% of Rec. 2020), and the sheer depth of contrast left the audience in awe. Christie has once again raised the bar for what’s possible in projection, earning the Eclipse G3 the Projection Central Best of Show Award at CEDIA 2025.
Christie VDR: Variable Dynamic Dimming Redefines Contrast
As impressive as the Eclipse G3 was, the second breakthrough was Christie VDR technology. This patented technology takes the native contrast of a projector and increases it by a minimum of 10x. I saw it firsthand: a projector with a 5,000:1 contrast ratio achieved a staggering 55,000:1 contrast with VDR enabled.
Even on an iPhone video, the difference is obvious. But in the room itself, the effect was so dramatic there were audible gasps from the audience. That’s how profound the leap in performance is. What’s even more exciting is that VDR will be available next year as an upgrade for existing Christie M4K and Gryffin projectors, opening a new frontier for high-end projection systems already in the field.
