Dedicated Cinema with Bar

Cinema Overview

Sculptural and intricate this design itself is a work of art, catered to the interests of the owners. The sculptural floor to ceiling wall patterns creates a dimensional and unique experience for the user, elevating the space with the use of LED lighting. The unique wall cut-outs are perfectly complimented by the star ceiling making the cinema a cohesive design.

Project Details

After having the initial meeting in our Sydney showroom, we were invited to Melbourne to visit the client’s home. The perfect client, being that they didn’t want to influence our design and preferred to give us free reign and see what we came up with. We noticed that they were heavily into art and their initial home design was very sculptural (although this later changed), so we decided the room should be a piece of art. As a creative project it was a thrill to be given this freedom. We must have come up with over twenty designs before we settled on the perfect fit.

The clients loved it and the design did not alter from initial concept to completion. Personally, I believe great architects and interior designs are artists. The best of design is almost always achieved by trusting the artist to compete a vision.

This cinema was incredibly difficult to design due to the very low ceiling height of 2600mm. The room looks taller than it should due to the optical illusion of changing ceiling materials and layering the ceiling with very small height changes. The ducted A/C system for the bar, cinema and projector ventilation was designed using a system used in luxury yachts where the structure is used as part of the duct lining and coated to stop condensation problems.

It was a privilege to be involved in this project and we know that many cinemas have evolved from the completed design.
