A sleek and simple approach to cinema design, this room features custom joinery in both the cinema and entertainment area. The continuation of timber joinery in the entertainment space that flows to into the cinema creating a cohesive space. The warm tones are used to create a homely and inviting space.
Wavetrain Cinemas was engaged to design a multi-purpose cinema/billiard room. The client wanted us to create a place for them to entertain, whilst not interfering with the other people in the house.
The house is built on a heavily sloping block and the rooms were dug out of the rock at the back of the lowest level. The initial design was for one large open space, but we installed a dividing wall to allow the rooms to be used individually and to help accommodate the bar/billiard room. The client’s brief started as wanting a simple functional room and grew in complexity as the project progressed and they realized the possibilities.
Wavetrain was responsible for the architectural design, interior design (inc joinery and all material/colour selection), acoustic design, lighting design, construction supervision, equipment specification and system calibration.
A testament to the finished product is that the parents now use the room almost as much as the kids. The downstairs rooms are an escape and they have started dating again, with a standing reservation on a Friday night. They will open a bottle of red wine, play some billiards and watch a movie. The clients also commissioned Wavetrain to redesign their upstairs living room.
Although completed 10 years ago, the house was recently sold and flooded before they could move in. Wavetrain was reengaged to complete the work and so the system was updated to latest equipment specifications. In the client’s own words – “We bought the house because of the cinema and want it put back exactly the same… with a few tweaks.”
