This bold and unforgettable cinema draws inspiration from Art Nouveau architecture, blending striking colors, curated lighting, and luxurious materials to create a dramatic yet inviting space. Soft textiles and warm tones add depth and softness, while the sleek sheen of the chairs and moody lighting enhance the cinematic ambiance.
Originally intended to follow an American design, the project was reimagined entirely by Wavetrain to surpass the client’s expectations. Designed to seat 15 with room for 20, the cinema features a stunning audio/video system engineered to meet industry standards while allowing for future upgrades. The client, a philanthropist with an award-winning architectural home used for charity events, requested a design that reflected the prestige of their property.
Inspired by the atmospheric charm of Sydney’s Hemisphere Bar, the “Bohemian Rhapsody Cinema” evolved into a moody, elegant space with an eclectic style. Highlights include a custom-built stage for the musically inclined family, handcrafted seating, and bespoke timber profiles. Wavetrain also extended the project to redesign the seating room and staircases, sourcing antique furniture and creating custom cushions and chairs for a truly unique outcome.
This year-long project, a true labor of love, earned the title Winner of the 2013 Sound & Image Magazine Best Custom Installation and stands as a testament to craftsmanship, individuality, and timeless design. It is a proud centerpiece of the client’s home and a reflection of their philanthropic spirit.
