The Dune Cinema transforms movie-watching into an exceptional experience through its seamless integration of cutting-edge audiovisual technology. Precise sound engineering and high-resolution visuals are delivered through a custom-built projection system, all within a space that embraces the natural curves and organic elements inspired by the Dune theme. Every detail is meticulously designed, from the acoustics to the aesthetics, resulting in a cinema that combines technological excellence with personal creativity, offering a truly immersive and visually striking environment.

Project Details

After having the initial meeting in our Sydney showroom, we were invited to Melbourne to visit the client’s home. The perfect client, being that they didn’t want to influence our design and preferred to give us free reign and see what we came up with. We noticed that they were heavily into art and their initial home design was very sculptural (although this later changed), so we decided the room should be a piece of art. As a creative project it was a thrill to be given this freedom. We must have come up with over twenty designs before we settled on the perfect fit.

The clients loved it and the design did not alter from initial concept to completion. Personally, I believe great architects and interior designs are artists. The best of design is almost always achieved by trusting the artist to compete a vision.

Project Details

Being a dark and moody space, this cinema displays the ideal cinematic ambience. Filled with fine details, the cinema is polished and sophisticated. The use of dark textiles is softened significantly when paired with the natural timbers with elegant detailing. The ceiling lighting panels are an interesting approach to resolving lighting in the cinema space, allowing for an overall glow within the room as opposed to directional light. The antechamber compliments the cinema space flawlessly, connecting the rooms through the same fine detailing within the timber work.

Project Details

Through materiality and fine detailing this cinema bridges a gap between modern and traditional design creating a unique and elegant space. The cinema features details reminiscent of gothic architecture which is directly inspired by the original home. By incorporating details from the rest of the home, there is a connection created between the two whilst the cinema remains its own space. The contrast between various textures in the metal work around the room, including the pressed metal ceiling, the gold leaf coffers and the aged brass mesh creates a balance throughout the cinema with relation through materiality despite variations in tone. The metalwork paired with lush and opulent materials creates a moody ambience perfect for a cinema room. The traditional lighting used once again ties back to the original home design. The space is bold and atmospheric, with warm lighting and moody tones the cinematic ambience is elevated and the space is made that much more inviting.

The Starlight Cinema project showcases the art of harmonizing high-quality home cinema technology with serene living spaces. The challenge was to create an immersive cinematic experience while preserving the tranquility of the home. Meticulous attention was given to every detail, particularly the design of the air-conditioning system, ensuring sound isolation integrity. We implemented custom sound isolation doors and various air-conditioning solutions, seamlessly integrating a booming audio system with the tranquil environment. Elementi Audio’s concert-grade speakers were chosen, maintaining audio clarity at 105dB with 3dB headroom. The cinema accommodates eight seats, with D-box upgrade potential, and features a 165″ wide screen with 2.35:1 aspect ratio for true HDR image quality. The project’s technical finesse earned it a finalist spot in the 2021 CEDIA Awards’ “Home Cinema Asia Pacific” category, celebrated for its meticulous wiring, HVAC integration, and holistic cinematic experience.

The project focuses on celebrating the room’s spaciousness while creating an immersive cinematic experience through curated lighting and materials. A custom installation of sound-activated RGB lights enhances the cinematic ambiance, with metal and glass components transforming in color and texture, adding a dynamic dimension. Soft curtains counterbalance the metal elements, fostering harmony, and the layout guides occupants through a gradual spatial progression, resulting in a captivating journey within the room.
