quiet glue

Viscoelastic Soundproofing Glue
QuietGlue® is the world’s best selling and highest performing viscoelastic soundproofing glue (over 25M square feet installed since 2003) for use in the construction of walls, ceilings, floors and other architectural elements. QuietGlue is ideal for hobbyists and do-it-yourselfers, as it can provide the lowest cost method of creating high STC walls for home theaters and other rooms when labor cost is not an issue.

How does it work?
QuietGlue® has been designed to dramatically improve damping across all audio frequencies, especially low frequencies at room temperatures, when compared to regular drywall or other soundproofing glues. When placed between sheets of drywall, QuietGlue forms a Constrained Layer Damped system (CLD). As acoustic energy hits this system, stress and strain forms at the shear layer, which requires work to be exerted by the limited acoustic energy, thus dissipating it (converting it to tiny amounts of heat). The result is a wall structure that can remove
75% to 95% more acoustic energy than regular drywall in similar configurations.

QuietGlue is an ultra-high damping viscoelastic construction adhesive for use as a glue layer between drywall, wood, or other combinations of materials where one or both layers are porous (such as wood to wood, wood to concrete, concrete to drywall, metal to drywall, drywall to drywall etc.). QuietGlue may be applied during construction, or after-market by homeowners or contractors to significantly increase the Sound Transmission Class of walls, floors, sound barriers, or ceilings by 10dB to 20dB. With 58oz (2-tubes) used between two layers of 5/8” drywall, single stud walls can provide results between STC 55 and STC 59 depending on configuration. QuietGlue is more effective and less expensive than other methods or glues. It absorbs noise and vibration within the structure and significantly reduces noise transmission and impact noise room to room.

QuietGlue is a construction glue and must be used between two layers of material (it is not a coating). QuietGlue is easy to use: apply glue randomly and uniformly to one surface with a tube or square-notched trowel. The glue will dry within 24 hours and create a high-tech viscoelastic constrained damping layer between the two layers.

DAMPING PERFORMANCE
The damping performance of QuietGlue is unrivaled
in the industry. Damping can be measured
(and seen as in the examples below) by using
an impact hammer and accelerometer to capture
the decay of drywall as it is struck. The higher the damping factor the less the material
will vibrate due to noise.

sound chart

Example of Standard 5/8” Drywall
Damping Factor = 0.03 - 0.08
Notice that the drywall panel continues to vibrate and “ring” for a long period of time after it is excited.

sound chart

Example of QuietGlue between 5/8” drywall
Damping Factor = 0.45 - 0.65
Vibrations cease quickly with such a highly damped structure.
